Parent FAQ
Everything you need to know before the first bell.
New Students
It’s our first time at The Doghouse School. How do we book?
Welcome, new pupils! To get started, select “Check Availability” on our website. Enter your email address, and you’ll receive a one-time login code to access your account.
Once logged in, select “Daycare” and then “Add a Pet” to enter your dog’s basic information. After your pup’s profile is created, our system will recognize them as a new student and prompt you to schedule a Freshman Orientation, also known as a Meet & Greet.
Freshman Orientation includes a full day of daycare at a discounted first-day rate. This visit gives our team time to get to know your pup, observe their play style, introduce them to our routine, and determine whether The Doghouse School is the right fit.
After your reservation is submitted, our team will send a welcome email with everything you need to prepare for your first visit. This email will also include our Freshman Orientation Form, which helps us learn more about your pup’s personality, routine, preferences, and care needs so we can provide a more personalized experience from day one.
We’ve been before, but the system says my pup still needs to complete a first day. Why?
This usually happens for one of three reasons.
First, make sure you are logging in with the same email address you used when you originally created your account and booked with us. If you use a different email address, the system may not recognize your pup’s previous visit.
If your pup recently completed their Freshman Orientation, please contact our team so we can confirm that their first day was marked as successfully completed in our system. Occasionally, this step may need to be updated manually before future daycare or boarding reservations can be booked.
If your pup has not attended in an extended period of time, typically a year or more, we may require a new Freshman Orientation before they return to regular daycare or boarding. This helps us safely reacclimate them to our environment, staff, daily routines, and playgroups.
If you’re unsure why the system is showing a first-day requirement, please contact The Doghouse School. Our team will be happy to review your account and confirm the next steps.
Cancellations & Changes
What’s the best way to cancel my appointment?
The best way to cancel an appointment is through one of our official cancellation channels: your booking confirmation email, your online booking account, by emailing us at thedoghouseschool@gmail.com, or by calling The Doghouse School directly.
To help ensure your request is received and processed in time, we do not recommend sending cancellation requests by text message or through social media. If a cancellation request is sent through one of those channels, our team may ask you to resubmit it using one of the official methods listed above before it can be reviewed.
Please review the cancellation policy provided during the booking process and at the bottom of your confirmation email for details about cancellation deadlines, refund eligibility, and credit eligibility. This policy is shown before checkout, after checkout, and again in your confirmation email for your reference.
If you have questions about your reservation or cancellation options, please contact our team. We’ll be happy to assist.
I’m cancelling because my dog is sick or having a medical emergency. How does the policy apply?
Cancellations and reschedule requests due to illness or medical emergencies are still subject to our cancellation policy.
In the event of a medical illness or emergency, a veterinarian’s note must be provided on the same day as the cancellation or reschedule request in order to be considered for an exception. Documentation may be submitted by email or as an official veterinary letter.
The documentation must include the veterinarian’s recommended return-to-play date, so our team can confirm when your pup is cleared to safely return to daycare, boarding, or school activities.
Submitting documentation does not automatically guarantee an exception, but it allows our team to review the situation properly and determine whether a refund, credit, or reschedule exception may apply.
If you have questions about your specific situation, please contact The Doghouse School directly. Our team will be happy to review your reservation and explain the available options.
Can I change the dates of an existing reservation?
Yes, reservation dates may be adjusted when availability allows. However, all date changes are subject to our cancellation and rescheduling policies.
If your requested change falls within the eligible policy window, we can typically make the adjustment without penalty, though some changes may require a few extra steps depending on the reservation type.
Changes requested outside of the policy window may result in additional charges for added days or nights, reduced credit eligibility, or forfeiture of prepaid services, depending on the reservation and timing of the request.
We encourage clients to submit cancellation or reschedule requests as far in advance as possible. For complete details, please review our Policies, Terms, and Conditions, which are available during booking, within your account, and in your confirmation emails.
If you’re unsure how a date change may affect your reservation, please contact The Doghouse School directly. Our team will be happy to review your reservation and explain your available options.
Boarding
Can I arrive in the afternoon or evening for my boarding stay?
No. Boarding arrivals must be completed during our designated morning drop-off window.
Our boarding program runs alongside our daycare program, and morning arrivals are important for safe group integration, feeding schedules, staffing, and daily operations. Arriving during the proper window gives your pup time to settle in, meet the group, and adjust to the school day before evening routines begin.
Arrivals outside of the designated drop-off window may result in additional fees, denial of service, or forfeiture of prepaid services, depending on the reservation and timing of arrival.
Boarding arrival requirements are provided on our website, throughout the booking process, and in reservation reminders. If an unforeseen emergency affects your arrival time, please contact The Doghouse School as soon as possible so our team can review the situation and advise you on any available options.
Campus Life
How can I tell if my dog enjoys attending The Doghouse School?
One of the best ways to see what your pup is up to is by following The Doghouse School on Facebook and Instagram. We regularly share daily stories featuring dogs enjoying daycare, boarding, enrichment activities, school events, and special moments throughout the day.
If you don’t see your pup featured, or if you do not use social media, feel free to ask our team for photos, updates, or observations. Depending on availability, we may be able to provide pictures by email or text message.
Most importantly, just ask us! Our team strives to be transparent about your dog’s experience, including their behavior, social interactions, comfort level, confidence, and overall adjustment to our environment.
We are always happy to discuss how your pup is doing, share what we are seeing during their stay, and help determine the best plan for their individual needs, comfort, and success.
Do you offer facility tours?
We do not typically offer in-person facility tours. However, we are happy to help parents feel informed by providing photos or video tours by email, showing facility photos at the front desk, and sharing regular behind-the-scenes updates through our Facebook and Instagram stories.
Our social media often features our play yards, activity spaces, kenneling areas, lobby, enrichment activities, and everyday school experiences, giving parents a helpful look at life inside The Doghouse School.
We limit on-campus tours to help protect the comfort, safety, and routine of the dogs in our care. Many dogs settle into familiar schedules and environments, and unexpected visitors can create distractions, excitement, stress, or changes in behavior. Limiting foot traffic also allows our team to stay focused on supervision, cleaning, feeding schedules, group management, and daily operations.
In certain situations, a brief tour may be considered if operations allow; however, tours are not guaranteed and may not be available during active daycare, boarding, or transition times.
We strive to provide transparency through photos, videos, social media updates, and direct communication so parents can feel confident and informed about their dog’s experience at The Doghouse School.
Policies & Packages
Do you accept dogs that are not spayed or neutered?
Yes. Unlike many traditional daycare facilities, The Doghouse School may accept both intact males and intact females, as long as their presence does not negatively affect their own behavior, the behavior of other dogs, or the overall safety and management of the group.
Female dogs in heat are not permitted to attend daycare and may be restricted from other services at our discretion.
Because every dog responds differently in a group setting, intact dogs are evaluated as individuals. If an intact dog’s behavior, interactions, or influence on the group becomes disruptive or creates a safety concern, our team may remove them from group activities, modify available services, or recommend spaying or neutering before future attendance.
Our goal is to evaluate each pup fairly while maintaining a safe, structured, and positive school environment for all students.
How should I use my daycare package?
Daycare packages can only be applied to the specific daycare offer they were purchased for. For example, Recess packages may only be used for Recess appointments, and Recess + More packages may only be used for Recess + More appointments.
When booking, please make sure you select the daycare option that matches your package so the system can apply it correctly. Previously purchased packages and rates will continue to be honored according to the package originally purchased.
We recommend choosing the package that best fits your pup’s attendance schedule, care needs, and your budget. If you’re unsure which option is the best fit, please contact The Doghouse School and our team will be happy to help.
Please note that all packages have designated expiration dates, are non-refundable, and cannot be extended except where otherwise outlined in our policies.
